Slate has many uses besides roofing material. 

 

 

The ‘slaty cleavage’ characteristic of slate allows large slabs to be quarried with a relatively flat surface, especially in Vermont Green. This is left as ‘Natural Cleft’ or ground and honed to a smooth surface. As such it provides exquisite counter-tops, table-tops and vanities.

 

 

Billiard tables are a well-known use for the product. For centuries slate has found use as treads and risers for stairways, window sills, thresholds and of course flooring tile.
